RULE GUIDELINES
For the upcoming
Sport Compact Series we planned to use the latest MSA rules as a guideline
and have our own supplementary rules applicable on race days. The problem
came in that if we used our rules, there wouldn't be anyone to enforce
them. The MSA marshals are only trained according MSA rules so they'd
need new training. This was not an option, so we had to revise the setup.
We're no longer looking at weight, time and mods to separate the cars
into the various classes. We're running the series in Eliminations format,
weight and time don't come into it. This basically means that no matter
what car you have, there's a chance you can be the overall winner on
a race day. The weight part has fallen away because no one will be dialling
in against the records.
While we'll allow race fuels with the usual octane
enhancers like toluene, xyelene and methanol, you'll be banned for the
year for using nitromethane or propoleneoxide. They're too dangerous
for all concerned. The event will be run on the dial in system. There
will be a qualifying session to start the day off and from there it
will run into eliminations based on dial in times. After the qualifying,
the fastest competitors in each class will go into the knockout phase.
GENERALCLASS REGULATIONS
Eight, ten and twelve cylinder, and triple rotor vehicles, are not allowed.
Bikes and Quads are not allowed.
No space frame / tube chassis cars allowed. At least 50% of structure
still needs to be the original car (as per OEM).
5-cylinder vehicles will be placed in its own class.
Four wheel drives will be classed in their respective classes.
SAFETY AT ALL TIMES
Helmets, long pants, long sleeves and closed shoes compulsory.
Seatbelts / restraint systems compulsory and to be worn at all times.
Full race suits, including race shoes, gloves and helmets is compulsory
should a vehicles run quicker than 10.99 seconds. These safety requirements
are also applicable when using Methanol fuel.
Parachutes are compulsory should a vehicle exceed speeds of 230km/h.
GENTLEMANS AGREEMENT
The 30 second stage rule applies throughout the day.
ELIMINATION ROUND
Drivers
will have to dial in their times, and these times must be within 1%
of the fastest time run during the day. This is to try eliminate unsportsmanlike
“sand-bagging” tactics. If a competitor makes it through
to the knockout phase and they don't submit a dial in time, the officials
in the tower will let the computer dial in for you, which is usually
your quickest run during qualifying. In dial in eliminations there is
always a bye run somewhere in the event. We've decided to make it easier,
we'll tell you up front who qualifies for the “free” run.
1st bye - 1st fastest qualifier
2nd bye - 2nd fastest qualifier
3rd bye - 3rd fastest qualifier
No break out rule, when dialed in on record is hereby non-applicable.
Drivers will be dialed in automatically to their quickest qualifying
time on the day.
ELIMINATION CUT
OFF TIMES FOR 2010

As you can see, the Sport Compact Series is all about
serious racing. Like the saying goes, "Come with what you've got!"
